Dr. Desai was born and raised in Houston , Texas. She received her doctorate of veterinary medicine from Texas A&M University (WHOOP!) Upon graduation in 2005, Dr. Desai practiced in Dallas, Texas. During her time there, she developed a keen interest in client education and preventative care. In 2010 she joined a progressive small animal practice in Atlanta, GA where she honed her skills in internal medicine and dentistry.
Dr. Desai is thrilled to be permanently back in the Lone Star State! She is living proof that ‘you can take the gal out of Texas, but you can’t take Texas out of the gal!’ Dr. Desai and her husband, Nilesh, live in Sugar Land with their 2 daughters, Shefali and Maya. In her spare time, she enjoys working out, traveling, and discovering new restaurants in Houston. Dr. Desai’s philosophy about practicing veterinary medicine is as follows: be patient, be practical, and be personal!
Dr. Dority was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She knew she wanted to be a veterinarian from an early age and grew up with cats, rodents, and reptiles. She is an Aggie at heart, having earned her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M followed by her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Dority is excited to practice veterinary medicine in Houston! She has specific interests in dermatology, internal medicine, and ultrasound. She shares her home with her Chinese Shar Pei, Sophie, and her ball python, Charlie. In her free time, she enjoys reading, drawing, cooking, and spending time outdoors.
Dr. Ivy Frank was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. She was exposed to veterinary medicine at a very early age as an assistant in her father’s veterinary practice. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Georgia. She also received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia.
Dr. Frank has been an associate veterinarian at BSHVC since 2002. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Steven, her girls, Hailey Jane, Madelyn, Lila and Charlee. She is an avid college football fan (especially for the Georgia Bulldogs). She also enjoys horseback riding, hiking, reading, eating chocolate and playing flag football.
Dr. Julie was born and raised in Laredo, Tx, just south of San Antonio. She was destined to be an Aggie from an early age and fulfilled this life goal by obtaining both her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M in College Station, Tx. She loves all animals, but particularly enjoys working with large dogs and the occasional horse! Dr. Julie is so excited to join our team and explore the world of veterinary medicine! When she is not in clinic, she enjoys adventures with friends and family, eating all types of food, and cheering on sports events (especially Aggie football, Whoop!).
Dr. Rita Jou grew up in San Antonio, Texas. She left Texas to complete her undergraduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts where she studied Brain & Cognitive Sciences. Upon graduating from MIT in 2004, she worked in the field of human neuroscience research in Boston and New York City, until she found her passion for veterinary medicine.
Dr. Jou attended the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Massachusetts where she obtained both her Masters and Doctoral degrees. She practiced as a small animal veterinarian for several years in Boston and surrounding towns, prior to her move to Houston in 2018. Dr. Jou’s clinical interests lie in preventative health, nutrition, and behavior.
In her time away from the hospital, you will find her at ball fields and courts all around town with her husband and three active children. She also shares her home with two high energy rescue dogs.
Originally from a little town just north of Kansas City, Missouri, Dr. Patten spent her early years cuddling with the neighborhood dogs and “rescuing” tadpoles from the wild. From her earliest days Dr. Patten has had a passion for animal care and advocacy, and this led her to the field of Veterinary Medicine. After earning her Bachelor of Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia, Dr. Patten completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences. Now a day, in her spare time, Dr. Patten loves discovering new restaurants with her family, attending live music performances, and spending quality time with her beloved dog, Arlo. She can’t wait to meet you & your pets!
